Indian Head Massage

I love giving head massages.

I start every one of my haircuts with a massage before I even bring you to the sink, and I always try not to sting out on the wash. We all know thats the best part anyways!

I love feeling my clients surrender in bliss. I love seeing them close their eyes and enjoy the moment. Having to hold their head up because they felt safe and relaxed enough to dream off in my hands.

My Beginnings with head massages

I remember as far back as my elementary school days when I played on a volleyball team. In between games, there was Jana massaging all my team mates. You could see them fight each other up the bleachers for who was going to be the one to sit in front of me.

This is also where my massage “ training” began. Well not really but you’ll get the point. See throughout my volleyball career I was a setter. You have to have strong hands and fingers for that position. When people ask me while washing their hair, if my hands ever got sore, I would joke and say my volleyball days prepped me for this moment!

How I heard about it

A few years back I heard of IHM and was very intrigued. Now I may have a method to my madness! I never went to massage school. I’ve only picked up things from my own experiences and a product knowledge class believe it or not, and made it my own.

I now can incorporate so many of these moves into my pre haircut massage and even my Zen head massage. It was the best three days and a great investment. Like really great investment especially for a hairstylist!

I had never had an IHM done before but when I was in South Africa this past year and saw that the resort we were staying in offered it I made an appointment right away!

That was my first taste of it and I have been wanting more ever since. So when I saw that they were offering the course here in Saskatoon, I immediately called my clients to rebook them and signed up for the three-day intensive course.

Why is it called INDIAN head massage?

This modality is derived from the East Indian culture and has been passed down to us. In their culture, the children learn IHM and take care of the elderly in the family with this loving and nurturing massage.

There are many Ayurvedic principles weaved into this massage, including the wisdom of the chakras and oils.

You may also hear this being called Champissage.

Champi = shampoo

ssage = massage

This had to do with when Narendra Mehta brought it to the western world in the 1970s.

The Service

Indian Head Massage is a beautiful addition to my offerings. I feel like it’s a gateway service to the other wholistic services I offer like the Zen Head Massage.

IHM is something that most of us who get massages are used to. It works on the upper area of the body.

Shoulders, upper arms, neck, head, and face.

It takes about 35-40 minutes and is done in a chair, fully clothed.

Even if you’ve never had a massage before this is a very nice way to introduce your body to this magical world.

It’s meant to be relaxing and stimulating at the same time. If you’re looking for a deep tissue massage then you might want to book in with your masseuse.

People’s favourite part of getting their hair done is the head massage, the hair wash. Well just imagine 40 minutes of it with 46 different moves being done on you.

It can be done as a stand-alone service or added on to a haircut. There is no hair washing with this but I have added it as an “add on” service if you wish.

I do not recommend adding it on to a colour and/or colour + cut as you might not reap the rewards not only for sitting too long but the different energetic frequency of the chemical service.

THE INVESTMENT

Stand Alone service $75

Add on service $65  (haircuts only)

Add on Wash +quick style $25

Haircut (Regular) $70

NEW clients welcomed.

You can have very short or NO hair to receive this service!

After care

Go home and relax- however that looks for you!

To prolong the effects: go home, have a bath, chill out, be in your own environment, watch a movie with your kids, order take in…whatever you do to keep yourself in a nice zen state.

I would also recommend drinking LOTS of water. When we work with the head and the upper three chakras we are releasing A LOT. Many times my clients are thrilled that the headaches they walked in with are now gone, but others can experience them afterwards if they don’t do this one very simple step. We could all use a little more water in our lives wouldn’t you say?

Some possible reactions to a holistic treatment could include:

-Nausea + Headache- A side effect from your body releasing toxins from the body.

-Tiredness- The body’s natural reaction from tapping into the parasympathetic system.

-Greatly energized- Since the body is cleansing itself of toxins and blockages it will run clean

-Mucus- Caused by massaging the sinuses.

-Perspiration- This is just a natural way the body rids itself of the toxins.

- Fully energized and ready to rock the day!
